Well, in some ways they seem to be the same. In isolation, we parents are often confronted by challenges, discussions, and situations related to our children that just seem to be bizarre. Then, when we compare notes with other parents with children of ages similar to ours, we are relieved, and amazed, to learn that these families are gaining experiences that are identical to our own. One of my current reading projects also includes a perfect example of this.

If you were wondering if you were going to get ripped-off during the housing bailout scam, the answer would be “yes.” The real question is how many scams will be written into any legislation. Here is the gist of one proposal:

So, maybe I posted the previous post too soon because here I am writing about an election season topic. This is an adaptation from an email dialog I am having with someone.
The time is upon us when the talking heads will analyze every inch of gossip, every twitch, burp and breaking of wind of each candidate - as if any of those things would really be the prime indicator of which team should be chosen to lead the executive branch.
Since I started paying attention to such things a while ago (years), it has been my conviction that we should do our best to make this selection based on the character of these individuals and here is why:

Although we are now in the Silly Season of the election cycle, I will not be spending much writing time here on those discussions. Most of those discussions have long since been concluded in my mind and I do not seen a huge opportunity here yet to influence others - I will expend those energies elsewhere. Here instead I will jump ahead and prepare for future battles, regardless of the outcome that is raging between the two senators, and the two different futures for the next four years.
The time has come to follow a new academic pursuit, at least informally. I have begun a leisurely survey of “The Great Books.” These books are what some think as archaic, outdated, and all other derogatory terms that are commonly used by *modern* folks to describe the Bible. “Old is bad, new is good” type of thinking. “We are more sophisticated now” type of thinking. “We are smarter now” type of thinking. But are we?

Once upon a time we took seriously the policing of the enemy in our midst. A recent New York Times article, and the interview of a Cold War co-conspirator, shed light on why spies do what they do, and we should consider how many are among us today. A more complete overview of the history is available HERE.
In 1951, Morton Sobell was tried and convicted on charges of espionage in connection with the convictions of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. Sobell never thought of his actions as spying because he was merely acting to assist a wartime ally (the Soviet Union). This is the psychology of an ideologically motivated spy.
We should consider how many residents of the West, and even citizens of those countries, hold a similar ideological bent toward aggressive Islam, and as such, against the social construct, not to mention the government, of the country in which they reside. This little thought experiment should help us get a better sense of the danger posed to Western civilization by the adoption of Political Correctness and Strong Multiculturalism.

Very shy and not fond of the bright light, this little guy has been staying with us for a couple of days. One of the local community felines was about to give chase when wife and son decided to intervene and adopt a pet for a couple of days. Mousy will be going back to the woods this afternoon after rest, food, and water in a climate-controlled cardboard box.
Why do we do these things?

Just a little Admin Note. From another blog project, I am consolidating blog posts into this location. I have determined to build these other posts into one persona. I am working on transferring posts in May of 2008 and then working in reverse from there.

I am out on the deck behind the house, sitting at the table under the shade umbrella. This day in Northern Virginia, the weather is absolute perfection. The temp started out cool this morning and slowly warmed to 70 F and very low humidity. The sky is a hemisphere of cobalt blue except for the high cirrus clouds that are slowly meandering from west to east. The sounds are of early fall-time crickets, a variety of relaxed bird calls, an occasional bustling squirrel, and a drone of orderly traffic on the main road on the other side of the woods.
Presently, my senses indicate an idyllic world.
