This is a big reading weekend, and reading leads to following rabbit trails to other reading, and one rabbit trail has led me back to the campfire.
Recently I added Liberal Fascism (and HERE is the author’s blog for the book) to my current reading list. After reading the introduction and then the first chapter, this book promises to be a very good and pertinent read. This reading led me to do some web surfing, which led me to Mark Steyn’s blog. I have been there before but I do not visit frequently - I suppose it is because I see things exactly as he does and therefore I look to challenge my intellect further rather. I do not want to be at risk of being accused of being part of an echo chamber.
In any field of knowledge, who is better to learn from other than experts in that field? None other of course. Ah, but not just experts of textbooks, but experts with inside experience in a field. That is who we should look for. Makes sense to me!
Many posts here have and will address the global Jihad that is upon us now. This is occurring both militarily and also culturally. I have been studying this for quite some time but have just discovered some expert resources that are new to me.
Like other tools of the state, or tools of a polity, an army can be used for good or for ill. Throughout history there are certainly many examples of the latter for the “anti-war” crowd to trot out to illustrate their argument. However, the moral measure must be made in the intended use of the tool, not in the potential for misuse. The tool itself is morally neutral.
Quiz Question 1: As a motorist hurtling down George Washington Parkway at the normal 20 MPH (or more) above the posted speed limit, you view this scene 1500 feet ahead (that is slightly more than 1/4 mile). You should:
Last evening I watched the 1992 film, A River Runs Through It. I am not a huge movie buff but I do like to watch and contemplate good films. This is one of many award-winning films that is perhaps on my catch-up list. One measure of truly fine films, as is the case with fine literature, are the ones which endure as noteworthy through time. I am not sure that this is one of them but it reaffirmed at least one moral lesson.
The success of Mohammad and Islam in deceiving, misinforming, and contorting, both history and reality over a period of almost 1400 years, has been astounding.
Rhetorical Question: Who else, in the history of the world, has been referred to as the Great Deceiver?
Mother’s Day is about honoring women and the sacrifices they make in being the ‘primary care givers’ (that is a modern-day technical term, I suppose) for the children which they raise. I learned today that this is the 100th anniversary of Mother’s Day and that the tradition was begun by a West Virginia woman who endeavored to make a lasting recognition of her mother.
One way that we can honor mothers is to honor women and womanhood in general. Through the ages, the honoring of women has not come naturally to human societies. In fact, quite often, the opposite is true - and this continues today. This very moment, women in many parts of the world are under constant, institutionalized emotional and physical assault that is codified in Sharia, or the Islamic law.
If this is news to you, then you have not been paying attention. This mother’s day post is dedicated to the effort of any reader, who has not been paying attention, and needs to catch up with the daily happenings brought to you by Islam (a.k.a. The Religion of Peace). Prepare yourself to learn and then hop on over to the blog Women Against Sharia. Read every post. Keep in mind that these are not the acts and beliefs on the margins of an otherwise ‘nice’ religion. These behaviors are what classical, doctrinal Islam teaches through its ’sacred’ texts.
In April, Representative Sue Myrick of North Carolina unveiled the “Wake Up America” Agenda. This agenda addresses ten specific issues related to potential subversion of US sovereignty for the purpose of extending political Islam into the United States. The talking head set will shout, “crackpot!” However, those who do not understand the threat to our future have not been doing their homework.
These agenda items only address specific issues, or perhaps more accurately, only some symptoms of the real, underlying problem. However, I will take what I can get from our dozing congress.
It is interesting how things sometimes come together. Earlier today I was contemplating the juxtaposition (or perhaps parallelism) of two news articles. First, there is the military junta of Myanmar seizing relief supplies intended for cyclone victims. Then, the not-so-shocking revelation that nations of OPEC provide contributions to fight world hunger at a rate that is “near-invisible.” - “near invisible,” now that is a pretty artful way of putting it!
OK. So that’s a bit of a tongue-in-cheek photo. I was on my bike peddling along the National Mall yesterday and came upon this scene of snazzy rides in the foreground of some WWII vets posing for a photograph. I just could not resist the snapshot. These guys are great!
Actually, I learned that these fellows were here on a trip sponsored by a non-profit organization that’s sole purpose is to bring vets to DC to visit the memorial built to honor their service and the sacrifice their fallen brothers
Honor Flight Network provides free transportation and escorts to veterans. The group pictured above was from Missouri. This service is a very noble idea.
By the way, the granite pillars in the background are a partial view of the WWII memorial. The memorial is very beautiful and fitting.
